APPs - Permanent Preservation Areas - are extremely important in reducing the impacts caused by natural and human action on nature, in order to preserve biodiversity, control erosion and reduce pollution through the vegetation in these areas. The vegetation present in PPAs provides stability to the soil through the roots of its plants, preventing erosion on steep slopes; it reduces the impact of rainfall on the soil and the roots contribute to its porosity, so it is less compacted and water is better absorbed into the water table, which prevents pollution of watercourses by the movement of soil particles and toxic waste through surface water runoff.
